Meaningless

Ecclesiastes is a book in the Old Testament that I didn’t know existed until about a year ago or so. I honestly didn’t know much about the bible until last year so it’s not a surprise I didn’t know about this awesome gem until now. What I love about this book is it discusses how our lives are with and without Jesus. The gist of the story is that our lives are meaningless without God in the center. We can try to fill our Jesus void with materialist things and things of this world, but it won’t truly fill that hole. Ultimately, we will have to surrender and come to the realization that God is the only creator that can fill our void. Everything else is just meaningless junk.

After I did some research, it seems that we don’t really know the author of the book but it most likely would have been Solomon. Solomon is a man known for having great wisdom, he was a king and also very rich.

King Solomon was greater in riches and wisdom than all the other kinds of the earth. 1Kings 10:23 NIV

Now, like most people in the bible and in the world, he turned away from God and thought he was living his best life with riches, wisdom, and 1,000 women I might add.. gross. But he quickly found out that a world and life without God was meaningless.

I said to myself, “Come now, I will test you with pleasure to find out what is good.” But that also proved to be meaningless. Ecclesiastes 2:1 NIV

Yet when I surveyed all that my hands had done and what I had toiled to achieve, everything was meaningless, a chasing after the wind; nothing was gained under the sun. Ecclesiastes 2:11 NIV

Whoever loves money never has enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with their income. This too is meaningless. Ecclesiastes 5:10 NIV

If we are constantly pointing ourselves to materialistic things to try to fix ourselves, we will always come up empty handed. Money, alcohol, sex, and drugs are not going to fill your void. Have you noticed a lot of famous people are suicidal or on drugs? Typically, it seems they are choosing their wealth and famous life over God. We are not any better, we choose to idolize them more than God. Why is that? They clearly have no wisdom to share with us that can come close to Solomon but we still choose to watch them instead of our bibles.

I think one of the main problems in this world is that people are putting money higher than God. If they could just have a high paying job, make a side business, earn more money to buy stuff, or make more money to make their spouse and family happy, then they will accomplish the world.. Wrong. That’s all it is, money. It will not change your life, it will not fix your messed up marriage, it will not make your child love you more, and I cannot make you look prettier. You are a child that was created by God and placed on this earth to help show his love to others. You will only find your cup filled all the way by handing it over to God and allowing him to fill it with the right ingredients to make your life complete.

Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind. For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil. Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 NIV

Remember, you are responsible for your own faith with God. Follow scripture and apply it to your life. Helping guide each other is always a great thing that we should strive to do. But, in the end, God will bring judgment on the good and evil. Make sure you are on the good side with your cup full from God. All the materialistic things and money are meaningless and will not go with you to heaven. Grab a friend and go get you a cute little cup to fill with Jesus.

Much love,
Charity
